Frequently Asked Questions
Prescription Safety Glasses
What is PD?
Your Pupillary Distance (PD) is the measurement, in millimeters, between the centers of your pupils. It’s an essential part of getting a precise fit — helping to align your lenses perfectly with your eyes for maximum comfort and crystal-clear vision.
If your PD isn’t listed on your prescription, you can easily obtain it by contacting your doctor or optometrist.
How long will the prescription take to arrive?
Prescription lenses are custom-made to your specs. Production usually takes 8-10 days, plus shipping time.
What makes EMU Prescription Safety Glasses different?
EMU brings style and comfort to safety eyewear. Our prescription range combines Z87.1+ protection with high-performance lenses that look good on and off the job — no more choosing between safety and style.
Are EMU prescription glasses ok for workplace use?
Yes. All EMU Safety frames meet or exceed ANSI Z87.1 impact standards, depending on your region. That means they’re fully compliant for industrial use.
Do you ship internationally?
Currently we only ship prescription safety glasses to Canada and USA.
Can I claim a rebate through my health fund?
Yes! EMU Safety prescription lenses are eligible for private health insurance rebates where optical extras cover applies. The rebate amount depends on your individual policy — we recommend checking with your health fund before purchase.
When placing your order, you’ll receive a tax invoice/receipt that can be submitted to your health fund for a rebate. Some funds may even allow direct claiming online for faster processing.
What lens options are available?
You can choose from:
- Clear lenses – everyday protection
- Photochromic (transition) – adapt to changing light
- Polarized – cut glare and improve clarity outdoors
- Mirror Polarized – extra style with serious sun protection
- Mirror Tint – tinted protection
How do I order prescription lenses?
Simply select your frame and lense options, then upload your prescription during checkout.
If your Pupillary Distance (PD) isn’t listed on your prescription, your optometrist or doctor can provide it.
Where are the lenses made?
Our prescription lenses are crafted in California, USA, using advanced optical technology to deliver exceptional clarity and durability.
Can I use my existing prescription?
Yes — as long as it’s current (within the last 2 years). We recommend checking with your optometrist if you’re unsure.
Do you offer progressive or multifocal lenses?
Yes, we can accommodate single vision and Multifocal prescriptions. Select your preferred option when placing your order.
Can EMU Safety lenses be thinned for stronger prescriptions?
Yes! For prescriptions around +3.00 (farsighted) or -3.00 (nearsighted), we use digital lens thinning technology. This custom process:
- Reduces lens thickness without compromising optical clarity
Makes lenses lighter and more comfortable for all-day wear - Keeps your glasses looking sleek in any frame
Even if your prescription is higher than +3 or -3, digital lens thinning ensures your EMU Safety glasses are stylish, comfortable, and perfectly suited to your vision needs.
Do EMU Prescription Lenses offer blue light protection?
Yes! EMU lenses can be enhanced with blue light protection, which helps filter high-energy blue light from screens, LED lighting, and the sun.
Benefits include:
- Reduced eye strain and fatigue during long hours on digital devices
- Improved visual comfort on the job or at home
- May support healthier sleep patterns by minimizing blue light exposure in the evening
Blue light protection is available with any lens type — clear or photochromic — without affecting clarity or style.
What coatings are included in the base price of EMU Prescription Safety Glasses?
All EMU Prescription Safety Lenses come with essential protective coatings at no extra cost, including:
- Anti-scratch coating – keeps your lenses durable and looking new
- Anti-fog coating – prevents fogging in changing temperatures or when wearing masks
- Anti-glare coating – reduces reflections for clearer, more comfortable vision.
These standard coatings ensure your lenses are durable, safe, and comfortable.
Do EMU Prescription Lenses come with a warranty?
Yes! All EMU Prescription Safety Lenses include a 12-month warranty. This covers any manufacturing defects in the lenses or coatings, giving you peace of mind that your glasses are built to last.
Normal wear and tear, accidental damage, or misuse are not covered, so handle your lenses with care for long-lasting performance.
How do I care for Mirror Polarized or Mirror Tint Lenses?
Mirror Polarized and Mirror Tint lenses offer excellent glare reduction and enhanced style, but their reflective coating requires a bit of extra care.
Protection: Every EMU lens is made with durable coatings, but the mirror finish can scratch if not handled properly.
Care tips:
- Always use a soft microfiber cloth for cleaning
- Avoid abrasive surfaces or harsh chemicals
- Store glasses in a protective case when not in use
While every effort is made to ensure durable, long-lasting mirror coatings, proper care is essential to maintain their performance and appearance
